Dear Guests,
Every August, in the pristine wilderness along the Muskoka River, Ruskoka Camp becomes transformed with the sound of children’s voices raised in laughter, song, excitement and joy. Swimming, fishing, canoeing, mountain biking are activities that all children love to do, but some of the kids had previously never experienced. Some of the children are recent immigrants, who have come to Canada with very little, and whose parents cannot afford the nominal camp fees. Most of the kids live in urban centres, and have no chance to spend their summers in nature. Ruskoka gives these children the opportunity to experience living in a tent, in the woods, to see stars in the sky, to swim in the river, to canoe, and experience the camaraderie of other children from the same heritage, religion and culture.
Grounded in strong Christian values, Ruskoka camp encircles the youngsters with role models who take an interest in each-child’s well-being. Many of the youth leaders are previous campers, who have learned leadership skills in previous years, and now impart them to the new campers. As camp comes to a close, children emerge with greater self-esteem, confidence and maturity. Many have found their leadership potential. All have had an experience of a lifetime.
Children are the future, please help make their dream a reality!
